Tree Cake

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Prepare double the amount of dough according to the Ribbon Cake recipe.
  2. Attach the hollowed-out tree to a rotisserie spit, brush with butter, and cover with white paper wrapped at small intervals with twine.
  3. Rotate the tree over an open flame, first slowly, then faster, until it is completely warmed without the paper turning brown.
  4. Wipe off any dripping butter, then pour the first layer of dough around the tree, rotating it first slowly, then faster to form ridges.
  5. Once the first layer is baked to a light yellow, pour the second layer over it and continue until all the dough is baked; for long ridges, rotate quickly while pouring.
  6. Finally, pipe the beaten egg whites over it, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and let it dry and cool before removing the cake from the tree.
